Lakewood High School student Jocelyn HolmanCongratulations to Lakewood High School student Jocelyn Holman, who took first place with her team at the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship in Houston. Out of 6,400 teams around the world, Jocelyn’s team is one of the top 16. This is the first time in the 27-year history of FIRST Robotics that any team from Colorado has advanced to this level, which is the highest level of robotics competition at the high school level.

In early January, they were given the theme of the season and a challenge problem. They had six weeks to design, build, and program a robot limited to certain specifications. The competition season began in February and ran for seven weeks, with more than 130 regional and district events worldwide, to narrow the field of robotics teams invited to compete at the World Championships. There are two of these events – Houston last weekend, and Detroit this coming weekend – 408 teams are invited to each event.

At this event, Jocelyn was also awarded the Dean's List Finalist Award for FIRST Robotics Competition which in 2018 was earned by 178 out of 91,000 participants. Way to go!
