Superintendent's Corner

Superintendent Dr. Jason Glass

Dear Jeffco Families,

Since its October release, our community has been engaged in a conversation about Jeffco Generations, the district vision document. The discussions happened in person and electronically over social media. They happened inside and outside of our schools, and they happened in both one-on-one and in large group conversations.

Overall, my professional assessment is that the Generations vision was well-received in Jeffco. This is not particularly surprising (at least to me) as it was written after several months of listening and learning about Jeffco to understand the district’s past strategic direction and the community’s aspirations for our schools.

However, three important tensions did emerge in those conversations. In some ways, these tensions represent conflicts over values and philosophies when it comes to education and what our hopes are for our students. For us to move forward, as a community, it is important that we find a resolution to these tensions and a clear direction for our schools.

A Message from Board of Education President Ron Mitchell

Board of Education President Ron MitchellDear Jeffco Families,

At our last Jeffco Board of Education meeting in January, the Board made two important decisions. First, we established and funded the Jeffco Innovations Acceleration Fund. This fund will be used to support innovative ideas coming from schools and individual educators. Funds will be used to provide start-up costs for creative ideas from within our organizations that will align with the Generations Vision. First-round applications are due February 9. The intent of this fund is to leverage the Entrepreneurial Spirit of our schools and educators.

Our second important decision was to fund classroom additions at three middle schools. Classrooms will be added to Creighton, Ken Caryl, and Summit Ridge Middle Schools.

Plan Now for School in August! Jeffco Preschool, Kindergarten & Choice Enrollment Happening Now

plan now

August may seem a long way off, but now is the time to plan for school enrollment. Preschool, kindergarten, and first-round choice enrollment are happening now through January 31 for the 2018-19 school year. All Jeffco children are assigned a neighborhood school based on home address and boundaries, and there are other options, as well. To learn about the excellent schools in Jeffco, go to www.jeffcopublicschools.org and look at school info. The school directory, school locator, and school options pages give an overview of all our Jeffco Public Schools.Self-Direction & Personal Responsibility
