High Expectations

It is essential the experiences of our students be anchored against high expectations. Our schools can accomplish this through an intentional process of alignment: alignment of learning experiences with curriculum, which is aligned with standards, which is aligned with high (and internationally benchmarked) expectations.

These high expectations must be present in all our schools, especially in those that serve students from disadvantaged backgrounds. To confront issues of student equity, we must ensure all our students are afforded the right to learn in a high-expectation environment.

Theory of Action

IF teachers and district leaders align curriculum, assessments, and resources to high standards and Generations Skills, AND all teachers have access and are supported to align instructional practices to meet these standards and skills,
THEN all students will learn with rigorous and engaging content in a high-expectation environment.

  • By May 2020 all Jeffco curriculum and resources for core content areas (math, science, social studies, reading, writing, communicating) will be aligned to the new Colorado Academic Standards and Jeffco Generations Skills (beyond Content Mastery).

  • By May 2019 educators in Jeffco Public Schools will create proficiency scales for all core content areas (Reading, Writing, Oral Expression and Listening, Math, Science, and Social Studies) in preschool through 12th grade.

  • By May 2020 Jeffco educators will have uploaded a minimum of 500 resources and assessments in Bridge to Curriculum, and those resources and assessments will be aligned with the proficiency scales for the core content areas, and a minimum of 500 resources and assessments will have received a 4 or 5-star rating.
