Music Program

Music Education is an integral part of Jeffco's core curriculum and provides students with unique experiences and skills essential for success in the 21st century workforce.  Students are provided instruction in all aspects of music: singing, playing, moving, reading, listening, analyzing, creating, and performing.

All Jefferson County students participate in general music classes beginning in first grade.  In fifth grade, students may also take instrumental music classes which offers them the opportunity to learn how to play a wind, brass, percussion or string instrument. In middle school, music education options include classes in band, orchestra and choral music.  Music electives at the high school level include a wide variety of both instrumental and choral offerings.  Jeffco students excel in music at a very high level and regularly win regional, state, and national awards for their performances.

Research reveals strong correlations between a quality music education program and academic achievement. The study of music develops essential skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, and team work.  Participation in music supports our District's Mission: To provide a quality education that prepares all children for a successful future.
