The Jefferson County Board of Education is the policy-making body of the school district. Its powers and duties are set by state law. The Board is responsible for educational planning and evaluation, staffing and appraisal, school facilities, financial resources and communication. The Board acts as a court of appeal for staff members, students and the public on issues involving board policy or implementation of that policy.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the Board Community Forums. The input gathered will help with future budget decisions and setting priorities for our students. We look forward to more outreach endeavors in the months to come and hope to gain your feedback at these opportunities as well.
The Board approved placing two questions on the November 8, 2016 ballot for a $535 million bond issue and a $33 million mill levy override. Reasons for voter support are outlined in the August 25 resolution. Community feedback on school needs for a bond and mill levy was received June 2, 16, July 28 and August 2, following the 14 forums and online survey used in development of the Facilities Master Plan.Board of Education Members
The Board is composed of five members elected to alternating four-year terms. Elections are held every two years. Board members are elected at large, but represent a specific area of the county - their representative district. Board members are not paid; they give freely of their time to serve the community. After each School Board election, the Board chooses its officers for the next two years. If a vacancy occurs, the Board names an appointee to serve until the next election.

- Financial Oversight Committee
- Technology and Data Privacy Advisory Committee
