Jeffco Security: Behind the Scenes

Read a statement from Executive Director John McDonald about Jeffco Safety and Security and how the department supports our students, staff, and facilities.

Safety Messages

Our district and schools use our Facebook and Twitter channels to disseminate urgent and emergency messages to the community - be sure to follow us! Additionally, we use the SchoolMessenger Communicate system to message parents about safety-related issues, among other things, via email, text, and sometimes phone.

The SchoolMessenger system uses what you, as a parent or guardian, enter into the JeffcoConnect registration system under the Notification Preferences tab. Therefore, it is vital families ensure contact information is always up to date within this tab and the boxes are checked for which type of communication you wish to receive where.

Security and Emergency Management

Jeffco Public Schools is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We understand students learn best when they can attend classes in a secure and welcoming environment. Our 130+ security staff are at work 24 hours a day protecting our schools.

The Jeffco Public Schools Security Team includes:

  • 6 Campus Security Officers
  • 4 Lead Campus Supervisors, 2 Campus Supervisor Coordinators
  • 74 Campus Supervisors, 6 Substitute Campus Supervisors
  • 17 Patrol Officers
  • 1 Patrol Sergeant
  • 10 Dispatchers, 1 Substitute Dispatcher
  • 3 Threat Management Staff
  • 6 Administrators, 1 Office Manager

We are also very lucky that our local law enforcement agencies support all our high schools and many of our middle schools with School Resource Officers (SROs).

District Safety Plan and Emergency Procedures

The district's safety plan identifies security programs and measures that focus on prevention, intervention, and crisis response. The School Safety Plan is designed to be used by school principals to create safe and respectful school environments. Learn about the Standard Response Protocol (Spanish) for responding to school emergencies. Review our Emergency Situations at School document which describes the types of emergencies that can occur in schools and how families should respond. (Also available in Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese.)

SAFE2TELL® is designed to help students anonymously report any threatening behavior that endangers them, their friends, family, or the community. Call 877-542-7233 to get help.

District Policies Regarding Safety, Security and Student Behavior

Jeffco Public Schools has created policies and procedures to help ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. All schools practice the Standard Response Protocol. See also:
