Superintendent Bio

Terry ElliottJeffco Acting Superintendent Terry Elliott stepped into Jeffco Schools for the first time nearly 45 years ago. He states he has grown and benefited from the daily efforts of everyone in Jeffco Public Schools as a student, educator, coach, administrator, and parent.

He began his work for Jeffco Schools in 2000. Before taking on the temporary role of acting superintendent, he served the district as chief school effectiveness officer beginning in July 2014. Prior to that position, Mr. Elliott served as an achievement director overseeing the management of elementary, middle, high, and option schools in Jefferson County. Mr. Elliott worked at D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School, Devinny, and Colorow elementary schools, and Lakewood High School from 2000-2013 in the capacity of principal, assistant principal, activities director, educator, DECA advisor, and varsity football coach.

Prior to joining Jeffco Public Schools, Mr. Elliott worked in the private business sector after graduating from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in History.

Mr. Elliott is a proud Jefferson County native who graduated from Lakewood High School where he was president of the Honor Society as well as co-captain of the 1985 4A state football championship team.

In his spare time, Mr. Elliott, along with his wife, is a volunteer firefighter/EMT for Foothills Fire & Rescue where he responds to fire, medical, and other emergency calls to provide professional services in support of life safety and property preservation.

Mr. Elliott will be acting superintendent through June 30 or sooner if the next superintendent for Jeffco Schools assumes office prior to July 1. Mr. Elliott looks forward to his next adventure, after acting superintendent duties transpire, 'a once in a career opportunity' to open the new "Comprehensive High School #3" as principal in Brighton’s school district 27J.
