New employees are eligible for benefits the first of the month following one month from their date of hire, with receipt of the appropriate paper-work by the Benefits Department.
The district contributes a monthly amount toward the cost of elected medical, dental, vision and mandatory Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance and Longterm Disability Insurance. This benefit allocation varies depending upon employee group classification and work schedule. With proof of other medical coverage, employees may opt out of the medical insurance and receive a reduced contribution from the district. View Medical Plan Costs for plan effective July 1, 2008. The following is a summary of benefits for Jeffco Public School Employees.
- Medical Insurance – Choice of Kaiser HMO or the PacifiCare Signature Value HMO
- Dental benefits offered through Delta Dental

- Life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance equal to one times base salary to a maximum of $100,000

Jeffco Public Schools employees participate in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). PERA is a substitute for Social Security for most public employees. Employees are required to contribute a fixed percentage of their salary to the PERA retirement trust fund – currently 8 percent. The employer also contributes a percentage of pay to the trust fund – currently 12.65 percent.
Jefferson County Public Schools employees have three voluntary retirement plan options available to them:
- The Jeffco Schools TSA/(403(b) plan
- The State of Colorado 457 Deferred Compensation Plan
- The PERA 401(k) Plan
