FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

District beginning construction to replace two outdated preschools

Construction is scheduled to begin this month on two new Jeffco Public Schools preschools. The Fruitdale preschool will open in August of this year and will replace the present school which is outdated. In addition, a new Tanglewood Preschool will be under construction and ready for students by August 2007.

The old Fruitdale Preschool, located in Wheat Ridge, is made up of three different buildings. The oldest, the Temple Buell building, is unusable and has been offered to the Wheat Ridge Historical Society. Two other structures on the property will be torn down to make way for the new $1.8 school which will be one-story with six classrooms, a multipurpose room and an administrative area that will be the home of the district’s preschool staff.

Tanglewood Preschool in Golden will be a 9,700 square foot, four-classroom building that will be constructed on the site of the current school.

Funding for the projects comes from the 2004 Jefferson County bond election when voters approved $323.8 million for building, renovating and repairing school buildings.

The general contractor for the two projects is Golden Triangle Construction; RTA Architects is responsible for the design.

Fruitdale and Tanglewood are two of 30 preschools offered by Jeffco Public Schools.
