Schools to observe Read Across America celebration
Students from Jeffco Public Schools will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the joy of reading on Friday, March 2 - in honor of Dr. Seuss's 103rd birthday. More than 45 million readers, both young and old, are expected to pick up a book and read. This nationwide reading event is sponsored by the National Education Association and many of America's leading literacy, youth and civic groups.
Jeffco schools will join in the celebration with activities throughout the district. For individual school information, please call schools directly.
This year, Superintendent Cindy Stevenson, will join with the following two classes on Friday to participate in the reading event:
11 -11:45 a.m. - Foothills Elementary, 13165 W. Ohio Ave., Lakewood
12:10-12:40 p.m. - Vivian Elementary, 10500 W. 225th Ave., Lakewood

Dakota Ridge High School Shave Heads for a Good Cause
Students and staff at Dakota Ridge High will be shaving their heads Friday, March 2, as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Several students will be shaving their heads - one has grown his hair for a couple of years in anticipation of the event. The “Shave for the Cure” fundraiser begins at 2 p.m. If more than $1,000 is pledged, Assistant Principal Matt Heckel will join in the shaving and if $5,000 is pledged, Assistant Principal Michelle Jeffords has agreed to do the same.
