Governor to Sign Legislation at Stein Elementary School
On Thursday, May 31, at noon, Governor Bill Ritter will be at Stein Elementary School, 80 Teller St., Lakewood, to sign two legislative bills dealing with health care for children.
He will sign Senate Bill 130, which provides financing to maximize the number of children who receive health care, and Senate Bill 211, which creates a state advisory committee to examine the barriers to health care coverage and investigate ways to expand coverage.

Charter School Receives National Honor
Jefferson Academy Elementary School, 9955 Yarrow St. Broomfield, has been named a National Charter School of the Year by the Center for Education Reform.
The honor was given to 53 charter schools from across the U.S. at an awards ceremony on May 16 in Washington D.C. The event was hosted by the Center for Education Reform, a group advocating for school choice and educational change.
“Years of hard work by the board, staff, parents and children has resulted in the special recognition as a National Charter of the year,” said Jefferson Academy Elementary School principal Michael Munier.

School District to Offer Summer Food Program
Jeffco Public Schools will offer a federally funded food service program at 18 schools during the summer. Free meals are available for children ages 1 – 18. Adults may purchase meals for $2.50. All food service programs will be closed on Wednesday, July 4. The Molholm Elementary food program has been cancelled as of Monday, June 25.
