FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEBER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS AND STAFF RELOCATED FOR BEGINNING OF SCHOOL YEAR

Weber Elementary students will be attending classes in different schools until mid-October because of an arson fire on the last day of classes in June.  The fire destroyed 50 percent of the school and although construction crews have worked through the summer, the building will not be ready for students by the start of school on August 22.

More than 50,000 square feet of the 35-year-old building was ruined by fire and smoke, causing $6.5 million in damages.

Students from Weber will attend classes in the following locations:

  • Kindergarten:  Warder Elementary, 7840 Carr Dr., Arvada
  • Grades one and two:  Zerger Elementary, 9050 Field St., Westminster
  • Grades three, four, five and six:  Al Meiklejohn Elementary, 13405 W. 83rd Pl., Arvada

Bus transportation will be provided for all Weber students to the host schools.

A number of alternatives were considered from split class shifts, temporary buildings on-site and delaying the start of school.  None of these plans were options the district considered safe and supportive for student needs. Bus transportation will be provided for all Weber students to the host schools.

It is hoped that Weber students and staff will be back in their home school by October 15.
