Jeffco Public Schools to dedicate new Bear Creek K-8 School

On Sunday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m., Bear Creek K-8 School, 9601 West Dartmouth Place in Lakewood, will host a dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of its new facility. The dedication ceremony will feature building tours and student performances followed by a community picnic for parents, students and staff.

The new Bear Creek K-8 School is a two-story, 120,000 square foot 21st Century facility. Designed to accommodate 1,080 students, the school has a central organizational spine oriented south to north with academic areas to the west, and large group activities, after school programs and public areas to the east. All classrooms face north and south to maximize day lighting opportunities. The building's exterior incorporates several variations of color to complement the geological surroundings of Bear Creek and the Hogback ridge of the foothills. Major design features include:
•  Over 50 classrooms which include: science labs, foreign language classrooms, art and music rooms, multi-purpose gymnasium with wood floor, fitness room with exercise equipment, cafétorium with performance platform and a full-service kitchen.
•  Outdoor amenities include play areas for different grade levels, a multi-use play field, long jump pit and high jump pad.
•  Parking lot for 179 cars included on the site.
Funding for the new school, $19.8 million, which was completed on-time and on-budget, came from capital improvement bonds approved by voters in 2004.
