August 16, 2007 District breaks ground for new Bear Creek High SchoolJeffco Public Schools will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2007 for the new Bear Creek High School. The groundbreaking, open to the public, will take place at 3490 S. Kipling St. in Lakewood. The $35.5 million Bear Creek High School includes the construction of a new 252,000 square-foot building that will accommodate up to 2,000 students. The new facility and complex (building, parking and athletic fields) are being built on the site currently occupied by the existing high school and the previous Bear Creek K-8 facility. Students will continue to attend the existing high school until the new building is ready for classes in fall 2009. Demolition on the older high school will begin in summer 2009. The project is being funded from bonds approved by voters in 2004. ###
