Jeffco Public Schools celebrate re-opening of Weber Elementary School

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:45 a.m., Weber Elementary School, 8725 W. 82nd Pl., Arvada, will host a re-opening ceremony.  The ceremony will be held on the students’ first day back to the newly reconstructed school.  The ceremony will include remarks from Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education Secretary, Scott Benefield, and Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Stevenson.

The school was damaged from an arson fire on the last day of school in June. The roof structure was severely damaged resulting in smoke and water damage throughout the building. While most of the fire restoration reconstruction was funded by insurance, some school-wide upgrades were made possible through the support of Jefferson County taxpayers and the funding received from the passage of the 2004 bond issue.

In order to reopen the facility, approximately 23,000 square feet of the interior of the building was re-built from scratch.  Over 26,000 square feet of the roof was replaced with new insulation, roofing material and eight roof-top HVAC units were replaced.  A new fire sprinkler system was installed throughout the facility as well as a roof detector equipped with a motion sensor security system and new electrical distribution panels.  The school has fresh paint and new double pane energy efficient windows.  New projectors were added to the classrooms.  While the school was under renovation, Weber students attended classes at other area elementary schools.
