FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jeffco Public Schools to Dedicate Norma Anderson Preschool
Jeffco Public Schools will host a dedication ceremony at 8 a.m., Thursday, October 25, for the new Norma Anderson Preschool. The school, named in honor of a former Jefferson County representative, is located at 10801 West 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are school namesake Norma Anderson, Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education member Hereford Percy and Jeffco Schools’ superintendent Dr. Cindy Stevenson. A reception and tour of the school will follow the ceremony.
The 12,000 square-foot, six-classroom facility replaced the outdated Fruitdale Preschool. The district preschool administration office is also housed in this new building. Funding for the new school, approximately $1.8 million, came from capital improvement bonds approved by voters in 2004. The project was completed on-time and on-budget.
Anderson's political career began in the Colorado House of Representatives in 1987 and ended in the Colorado Senate in 2005. She was the first woman to serve as Majority Leader in both houses, and gained respect from both sides of the aisle for her strategic thinking, fairness, and integrity. Her legislative accomplishments included authoring the bill that created the Department of Transportation, and the School Finance Act which provided equal funding to every school district.
