FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jeffco Public Schools to Dedicate John and Karen Litz Preschool
Jeffco Public Schools will host a dedication ceremony at 8 a.m., Thursday, November 1, for the new John and Karen Litz Preschool. The school, named in honor of long-standing community leaders John and Karen Litz, is located at 13950 West 20th Ave., Golden, Colorado.
Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are school namesake John Litz, Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education member Sue Marinelli and Jeffco Schools’ superintendent Dr. Cindy Stevenson. A reception and tour of the school will follow the ceremony.
The 9,700 square-foot, four-classroom facility replaced the outdated Tanglewood Preschool. Funding for the new school, approximately $1.6 million, came from capital improvement bonds approved by voters in 2004. The project was completed on-time and on-budget.
Karen Litz, a leader with vision and passion for children and learning, served as a member of the Jeffco Schools Board of Education from November 1999 through 2003 and was re-elected but unable to serve the term due to health problems. About three years later she died on January 31, 2007. As a lifelong learner, she earned her degree from Colorado Women's College and then an educational history degree from the University of Colorado. She then earned two masters degrees from the University of Denver, one in social work and a second in public school administration
John Litz, a long-standing member of the Jefferson County Open Space Advisory Committee and Plan Jeffco, was instrumental in initiating Jefferson County Open Space in 1972 and has volunteered for over 35 years to the cause.
