October 25, 2007 Evergreen High School gets top national honorEvergreen High School will be honored during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., next month as one of only three schools in Colorado to be named a 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School. The award is one of the most prestigious education awards in the country and honors schools, both public and private, for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap. Evergreen High won as a “high performing” school that is in the top 10 percent of all schools on state assessment tests in both reading and math from 2003-06. Only 287 schools were invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply for the recognition. “This award allows Evergreen High the bragging rights it deserves,” said former Evergreen High Principal Jane Sutera. “The entire Jeffco community should be proud of what is being accomplished every day at this school,” she said. Sutera and Evergreen science teacher Cheryl Manning will be in Washington on November 12 to accept the award. ### For information, contact Communications Services at 303-982-6808. |
