LIGHTS ON AFTER SCHOOL KEEP STUDENTS ACTIVE

An after-school program designed for students from Lumberg Elementary, Edgewater Elementary and Jefferson High schools, aims at improving their performance in the classroom.

The Lights On After School program gets students involved in after-school activities like hip-hop and Latin dance, community choir, advanced art and anime, video production, tutoring classes and robotics.

Sponsored by the Mile High United Way and The Jefferson Foundation, this program has proven that students who regularly participate in after-school activities have better success in school, improved attendance records and higher CSAP scores.

These particular Jeffco school communities have a high mobility population and involving students in activities after the school bell rings keeps them engaged and staying in school through graduation.

Expanding Lights On After School is a key strategy of United Way’s Youth Success Initiative, which focuses on helping at-risk youth overcome obstacles and graduate from high school.
