Jeffco Public Schools will host a dedication ceremony at 3:30 p.m., September 30, 2008 for the phase II Arvada West High School addition. The dedication, open to the public, will take place at 11595 Allendale Drive, Arvada.
The $24 million construction project includes a 162,000 square foot building replaced the original 1963 school. The new north classroom wing was designed to match the existing two-story west wing. The addition features large exterior windows and a two-story atrium. Contiguous to the atrium space are two levels of classrooms, which have light windows that capture the light of the atrium.
The new building has an auxiliary and main gymnasium with locker rooms, auditorium, music rooms, administration, cafeteria/commons, kitchen and core classrooms for math, English, special education, business, arts and wood technology. The baseball, softball, soccer and band practice fields and tennis courts were relocated.
The Galleria Building will remain and become the Warren Tech - Galleria at Arvada West. Students will be able to choose from a variety of up and coming curriculums to include health sciences, digital music, pharmacy tech and sports medicine, which will be the first class of its kind in Jeffco.
The school will also work towards providing curriculums in nanotechnology, the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale, and bioinformatics, which is a mix of biotechnology and computer science, in 2010.
The project was funded from bonds approved by voters in 2004 and is on-time and on-budget.
