STANDLEY LAKE EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT FILLS HEARTS

As the Thanksgiving season approaches, family and friends sit down together for dinner to give thanks for the blessings in their lives, knowing that not everyone has enough food to eat in our communities, nation and world.

Nine schools in the Standley Lake community will come together at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Standley Lake High School, 9300 W. 104th Ave., Westminster to help those suffering from hunger in their community by organizing the third annual Empty Bowls Project.

Jeffco schools Betty Adams Elementary, Lukas Elementary, Meiklejohn Elementary, Ryan Elementary, Semper Elementary, Sheridan Green Elementary, Witt Elementary, Lincoln Academy Charter School, Mandalay Middle, Wayne Carle Middle and Standley Lake High will create unique clay bowls that will be sold during an open house event for suggested donations of $10.00 per bowl.  All the proceeds from the event will go to the Arvada Food Bank to serve those in need.

Last year the Empty Bowls Project made a donation of over $2,000 to the food bank.  By donating to the local community food bank, schools are supporting an effort that serves those in need, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the whole year.

The community is invited to join students, teachers, families, principals and potters to help make this event a generous community gift.
