SCHOOLS CELEBRATE HISTORICAL INAUGURATION
On Tuesday morning, the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama will be viewed by millions around the nation and world.

Just because Jeffco students will be in class doesn’t mean they will miss out on the historic event.  Many Jeffco schools and classrooms have organized events to make sure students take part in history.

Here is a list of just some of the events planned in Jeffco schools:

Elk Creek Elementary School, 13304 S. U.S. Hwy 285, Pine, will hold their regular Tuesday morning live student-news broadcast run by fourth and fifth-grade leadership students.  The broadcast will have an inauguration theme.  Classes will watch the inauguration on classroom TVs.  For more information contact Principal Joann Marion at 303-982-2903.  

Fairmount Elementary School, 15975 W. 50th Ave., Golden, will have kindergarten classroom writing lessons, “If I were president, I would…”  Each kindergarten class will make flags with their hand prints and watch the live inauguration on TV.  For more information contact teacher Angela Blakeslee at 303-982-5422.  

Ralston Elementary School, 25856 Columbine Glen Rd., Golden, will celebrate Martin Luther King Day by unveiling a bully intervention program.  The school’s sixth-graders will hold presentations on discrimination and prejudice with an emphasis on bully issues at Ralston.  For more information contact Principal Karen Quanbeck at 303-982-4386.

Stony Creek Elementary, 7203 S. Everett St., Littleton, will hold a school-wide viewing of the live inauguration to be followed by classroom discussions.  Some teachers will also have classroom writing projects.  For more information contact Principal John de la Garza at 303-982-1965.  

Brady Exploration School, 5220 W. Ohio Ave., Lakewood, will hold a school-wide student activity during the inauguration where all students will watch the live inauguration on TV and hold a question and answer session.  For more information contact Principal Troy Braley at 303-982-6722.

Lakewood High School, 9700 W. 8th Ave., Lakewood, has teachers who have classroom viewings and discussions planned.  The live inauguration will be viewed on classroom SmartBoards.  For more info contact Principal Ron Castagna at 303-982-7096.

Lincoln Academy, 6980 Pierce St., Arvada, will have all middle school students watch the live inauguration and discuss it with their teachers.  For more information contact Principal Mary Ann Mahoney at 303-456-6186 ext. 232.
