Jeffco’s Graduation Rate Increasing
The number of students graduating from Jeffco high schools increased during the 2007-2008 school year according to information released on Thursday, May 28, by the Colorado Department of Education.
Jeffco’s graduation rate is 77.1 percent – a one percent increase over 2006-2007. The dropout rate for Jeffco is 3.2 percent – a decrease from last year’s 3.7 percent.
“This is really good news but we won’t stop our efforts to prevent kids from dropping out until our graduation rate is 100 percent,” said Jeffco Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Cindy Stevenson.
The state reported a graduation rate of 73.9 percent and a dropout rate of 3.8 percent. The graduation rate formula used by the state begins with each school and district’s entering ninth-grade class. That group of students is tracked through the end of the 12th grade year to determine the final graduating class.
The dropout rate reflects the percentage of all students enrolled in grades 7-12 who leave school during a single school year.
