Schools hit with storm damage
Overnight storms in the Denver metro area have damaged at least 40 Jeffco schools and district buildings. Many schools have broken windows and skylights while others have significant damage to trees and landscape. The initial damage estimate is at least half a million dollars. Jeffco maintenance crews began the repair work early this morning, trying to board up broken windows before more rain hits the area.
At Lakewood High School, 15 skylights were broken in the small gym area. Fletcher Miller School in Lakewood also had more than 20 skylights damaged. Some Jeffco buses have hail damage as well. Schools with damage include:
Arvada West High
Belmar Elementary
Blue Heron Elementary
Campbell Elementary
Dennison Elementary
Dutch Creek Elementary
Eiber Elementary
Green Gables Elementary
Kendrick Lakes Elementary
Lakewood High
Ralston Valley High
Power is also out to many district schools. It is expected that most of the repair work can be completed before the beginning of school on August 24.
