Messages of Peace Spinning in the Wind
The students and staff at Patterson International School, 1263 S. Dudley St. Lakewood, will spread thoughts of peace by planting pinwheels on the school’s front lawn in honor of International Peace Day on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8:50 A.m.
As part of an art and literacy project, Pinwheels for Peace, students and staff will create pinwheels to express their feelings on what’s going on in the world and in their lives. They will write their thoughts about war, peace, tolerance and living in harmony on one side and then draw, paint or collage to visually express their feelings on the other side.
Patterson is an International Baccalaureate school and part of the school’s mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring students who help create a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Last year, millions of students from the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Middle East, Africa and South America participated as 2 million pinwheels carried messages of peace to the world.
