Columbine 10-year anniversary event planning - Media Advisory

An event is being planned for Monday, April 20 to mark the annivarsary of the shootings at Columbine High School.

Columbine High School, as in years past, will be closed on Monday, April 20. The school will only be open to victim's families who would like to visit the school.  Principal Frank DeAngelis will be unavailable for interviews on Monday, April 20, but interested media can schedule interviews with DeAngelis from Monday, April 13 – Wednesday, April 16.

The details of the memorial events on Monday, April 20 are still being finalized, but the hope is to have an agenda after a meeting with families in early March.

Preliminary plans have the event taking place at the Clement Park Amphitheater, located in Clement Park, adjacent to Columbine High School.  The Columbine memorial, which is near the amphitheater, was dedicated in September 2007 as a place to honor the memory of those who died.

The 10-year anniversary event is tentatively scheduled to take place on Monday, April 20, for approximately one hour, from 5-6 p.m. It will include speakers representing victim's families and surviving students, Columbine faculty, singers, an invocation and a dove release.

For media wishing to interview family members, please know that those plans are being finalized.  Some of the families have agreed to be available for interviews on Saturday, April 18 at the high school.  No time has been established yet for those interviews.

As soon as the plans are completed, the Jeffco communications office will be sending out an updated advisory.  We know many of you are anxious to get more details.

Please make any additional inquiries about the event or interview availability to Communications Services.
