FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kindergarten registration to begin
Elementary schools in Jefferson County will hold kindergarten registration from Tuesday, Jan. 19 through Friday, Feb. 26, 2010.

Neighborhood schools offer full or half-day kindergarten programs. It is best to call the neighborhood school and check on registration dates and times. If parents don’t know the name of their neighborhood school, they may call the district’s school boundaries office at 303-982-2339, or visit the district’s Web site at www.jeffcopublicschools.org/schools/locator/boundaries/index.html.

Free full-day kindergarten will continue to be offered in some schools. Other kindergarten programs will charge $300 for the 2010-1011 school year.

Schools that have more students than available kindergarten spaces will use a lottery process after the registration window closes to determine student placement.

To register for kindergarten, parents should bring a birth certificate and proof of immunizations and address. Students must be immunized in accordance with the Colorado Immunization Law, which requires DTP/Td, polio, measles, rubella, mumps, chickenpox and Hepatitis B vaccinations. Please check with your child’s physician and bring the correct immunization card.

Students must be five years old by Oct. 1, 2010 to enter kindergarten and six by that same date to enter first grade.
