EARTH DAY INSPIRES STUDENTS TO ADD SOME GREEN

Other holidays repose on the past; Arbor Day proposes the future.  ~ J. Sterling Morton

Last summer, Vanderhoof Elementary, 5875 Routt Ct., Arvada, 80004, lost several trees on school grounds during a hail storm.  So, Arbor Day is the perfect day to welcome a new Blue Spruce tree to the school.  Students will pay tribute to the special day with a tree planing on Thursday, April 29, at 7:30 a.m.

The school’s student council organized an event where they invite their classmates to roll up their sleeves, break out the shovels and tackle the job.

Vanderhoof students have been busy all school year giving back to their community.  Students raised over 500 pounds of supplies for the Table Mountain Animal Shelter in December and rallied to collect a small mountain of canned and dry food, blankets, treats, kitty litter and leashes.

In January, the students raised hundreds of dollars to send to the Red Cross after hearing about the Haitian earthquake.  The fundraiser was called Hats for Haiti, where students donated a dollar to wear a hat at school.
