JEFFCO SEEKS MEMBER ON FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

Nominations are being accepted from citizens to fill a position to serve on the seven-member Financial Oversight Committee (FOC) for Jeffco Public Schools.  Members must have a working familiarity with finance and accounting practices and business management expertise with large organizations.  

The FOC’s primary function is to assist the Jefferson County Board of Education with oversight by reviewing financial reports and information, the systems of internal controls regarding finance, accounting, legal compliance and ethics.  The committee also assesses the business risk of the district, auditing, accounting and financial reporting process.  The committee should encourage continuous improvement of and foster adherence to district policies and procedures and practices at all levels.  Preference is given to Jefferson County residents.

Formed in 1999, the committee meets monthly and reports to the board of education quarterly.  Existing members are:  Gordon Calahan, President-Calahan Construction;  Mary Everson, Certified Public Accountant; Helen Gair, Former Senior Vice President-GMAC Commercial Holding; Koger Propst, President-First Bank of Colorado; Scott Tarbox-Attorney, Rumler Tarbox Lyden Law Corp., and Bob West, CFO-Apex Park & Recreation District.

Each nominee should submit a letter of interest along with a brief resume outlining the credentials and experience to ensure candidates meet the policy requirements.
