FRUITDALE SCHOOL BUILDING SET FOR DEMOLITION
The old Fruitdale School in Wheat Ridge is set for demolition in April of 2011.
Because the Fruitdale building was no longer cost efficient to renovate, the old building was replaced in 2007 with the new Norma B. Anderson Preschool, funded with 2004 voter-approved bond dollars.
The school was built in 1927 and designed by Temple Buell. Over the last three years, Jeffco has worked with the Wheat Ridge Historical Society and the Wheat Ridge Housing Authority to determine if saving the building was an option that would be financially feasible.
In 2008, the district put out a Request for Proposal to solicit investors willing to redevelop the building. No developers came forward, leaving the district with no option but to demolish the building.
