SUMMER READING PUSH COMBATS THE SUMMER SLIDE
Every student in all 22 Title I schools in Jeffco Public Schools will take home free books this summer – all in an effort to fight the “summer slide.”

For the second straight year, Jeffco Schools partners with Scholastic to give free packs of books to students to take home during the summer, along with activity sheets and tips to help parents make reading fun.The book giveaway will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Edgewater Elementary School, 5570 W. 24th Ave., Edgewater, 80214

Research shows that many students lose ground on their reading skills during the summer.  By encouraging kids to read for fun during the summer, it is hoped that students will return to school this August ready for the challenges of a new grade.

Edgewater Elementary School hosts a morning and evening session for parents to learn tips on how to keep their students reading through the summer. This event is one of several scheduled across the district to keep students’ skills sharp.
