JEFFCO PUBLIC SCHOOL’S CSAP READING SCORES IMPROVE
Jeffco Public Schools third-graders improved from last year on the state reading test.
The unofficial results of the 2011 Colorado State Assessment program (CSAP) for third-grade reading were released on Tuesday, May 10.
Jeffco’s young readers’ scores increased this year to 80 percent in the “Advanced/Proficient” category, up four points from last year. This is seven percentage points higher than the state average in the “Advanced/Proficient” category.
“This is exciting news for our Jeffco team. We had early indications that our third-graders weren’t on target with their reading, so our principals and teachers went to work and turned it around. This speaks to good leadership and good teaching in our schools,” said Jeffco Superintendent Cindy Stevenson.
Students scoring in the “Advanced” and “Proficient” categories also increased from last year and were higher than the state performance. Nine percent of Jeffco third-graders scored “Advanced” up one point from last year, and 71 percent scored proficient, up two points from last year.
