CITIZENS’ BUDGET ACADEMY
More than 75 people attended the first of six, two-hour budget academies that will give Jeffco parents, residents and employees a deeper understanding of the district’s budget and financial challenges. The Citizen’s Budget Academy (CBA) is the first of its kind for Jeffco as the district faces $70 million in reductions over the next two years.
“We’re doing some very different things by asking our public to get educated with a foundation of knowledge of how school finance works,” said Lorie Gillis, chief financial officer.
Every week, members of the academy learn about different aspects of the district and the complexity of public school finance. The citizen’s academy is the first step in a long budget process that will involve schools, departments, advisory groups and ultimately members of the Board of Education.
