WHAT: Resource fair reaches out to homeless youth
WHEN: TODAY, Thursday, Nov. 10 from 2-4 p.m.
WHERE: Sox Place, 2017 Larimer St., Denver
HOMELESS KIDS GET A HELPING HAND
Jeffco Schools’ Homeless Services department is involved in a youth resource fair at Sox Place, a Denver drop-in center for street youth. http://soxplace.com/ **See attached event flier
The resource fair, organized by the Colorado Youth Advisory Committee, will provide 100 backpacks full of hygiene and food items to kids in need and Jimmy Johns restaurant will provide lunch to kids.
Three breakout sessions will happen at the resource fair:
- A school engagement session to let students know about their academic options through credit recovery, GED, dropout prevention, etc.
- Lawyers from Co. Legal Services will help youth obtain legal documents they need and provide them with payment vouchers to obtain IDs, SS cards, birth certificates, etc.
- Agencies, referrals and resources for youth on the street like Urban Peak, Gemini Shelter, Family Tree, etc.
Gary Sanford, Housing and Homelessness Policy Advisor to the Governor, will attend the resource fair to hear from youth about their needs.
