COLOSSAL CABBAGE TURNS TO CASH
Sierra Elementary School fourth-grader Rylee Jeffries used her green thumbs to turn cabbage into cash.

Jeffries won a $1,000 scholarship from the Bonnie Plants seed company for growing the best and biggest cabbage.  As part of the prize, Sierra's third-graders will receive free cabbage seedlings in the spring from Bonnie Plants.

"This activity is such a great opportunity for our third-graders to learn about gardening," said Sierra third-grade teacher Lori Pietrafeso.  "What a great way to earn money for college."

Colorado's Agriculture Commissioner John Salazar and a representative from Bonnie Plants will present Rylee with her winnings.
