LAKEWOOD PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP LAUDED

Lakewood High School Principal Ron Castagna is the 2012 Colorado High School Principal of the Year.

The Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) named Castagna for being held in high regard by school faculty, students and the community and for using his leadership skills to empower others.

“He is known to be an individual who follows through, is serious about his commitments and understands the importance of leadership,” said Jeffco Community Superintendent Peg Kastberg.  “He is a dedicated educator who is committed to assuring that public education is the best that it can be.”

Castagna implemented the school motto We Are Family to reflect an inclusive school culture that values and embraces every type of student.

Castagna said he’s honored and humbled by the award.  “An award like this isn’t just about me; it’s about the hard work of everyone who works so tirelessly in our building, from teachers to secretaries to assistant principals,” said Castagna. “I’m incredibly proud to be a part of such an outstanding school team.”

Castagna was selected for this honor by his peers in the Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals (CASSP), a department of CASE and an affiliate of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

As Colorado High School Principal of the Year, Castagna is eligible for National High School Principal of the Year recognition, which will be announced later this year.
