Physical Education

Event Training

0.5 Credit

Interested in improving your overall fitness through completion of a specific goal? Event training can help! You will analyze your current diet, learn to read food labels, plan healthy meals, analyze the fast food industry and look at fad diets and eating disorders. As you follow a training plan, you will learn the basic physiological adaptations that are occurring in your body. You will learn the risks of inactivity and learn how to manage stress. Your final assessment in this course will be completion of a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, or triathlon.


Lifetime Fitness

0.5 Credit

Lifetime Fitness is a comprehensive course designed for general education students in high school. This course helps students develop knowledge, attitudes, and essential skills in (1) mental, and social health; (2) nutrition; (3) lifelong physical activity; (4) substance use and abuse; (5) injury prevention and safety; (6) personal health, environmental conservation, and community health resources. Through numerous case studies that engage and motivate, students apply skills such as accessing valid health information, self-management, analyzing internal and external influences, interpersonal communication, decision-making, goal setting, and advocacy. Students who complete Lifetime Fitness build the skills they need to protect, enhance, and promote their own health and the health of others.


Recreation Sports

Colorado has an abundant amount of outdoor recreational opportunities available including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and more. In addition to learning about and/or participating in these activities, this course is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to participate safely. Topics covered include leadership, decision making, minimum impact/Leave No Trace ethics, wilderness skills, map and compass, wilderness survival, outdoor equipment and clothing, backcountry cooking, and first aid in the wilderness setting.
