Adult Education Programs
Classes are designed to challenge the English language learner to improve listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar skills
Program Description:
- Day and evening ESL (English as a Second Language) classes are available to adults ages 17 and over at no cost or a minimal fee.
- Classes meet 2 semesters. Each semester is 15-16 weeks.
- Adult learners have the opportunity to take beginning through advanced level classes.
- Pre and post-test assessments are used to measure student progress and guide instruction at all levels.

English, Reading and Civics
The Links to Literacy Program is an integrated adult education, early childhood education, and parent education program that facilitates parents and children learning together through literacy activities.
Program Description:
Links to Literacy provides English language instruction, basic literacy skills, and civics instruction using a life skills curriculum for participating parents. While the parents are in class, children attend the preschool that provides developmentally appropriate activities that promote early reading, writing, and peer socialization.
Locations and Scheduling Information:
Classes are offered following the Jefferson County School year at the Family Literacy Center located on the Brady Exploration School Campus.
- English Classes: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or Monday, Tuesday, and Friday; 9:00-11:30.
- Citizenship Classes: Classes will resume in September 2010.
A nominal registration fee is collected from students with additional fiscal support through grants from the Colorado Department of Education’s Center for At-Risk Education.

The purpose of this program is to provide an alternative setting for adults to earn a high school diploma or prepare for a GED.
Program Description:
- Offers a variety of options for adult students after they have withdrawn from their high school
- The CB program is competency-based, meaning that students must demonstrate mastery of subjects and skills prior to earning credit and advancing
- Courses offered every 9 weeks
- Independent study available
Eligibility:
- Must be 18 years or older at the time of enrollment
- Applicants must have withdrawn from their last school at least 30 days prior to enrollment
- An official transcript from the last school attended must accompany the application
Entry Process:
- Required orientation including a reading and writing assessment
- Advisory interview
- Quarterly entrance
- No waiting list

• Bring a copy of school transcripts from any previous school attended and a copy of GED scores if you have taken those tests.
• The orientation includes:
• A presentation of the education program at McLain High School and time to ask questions.
• A reading assessment
