Online Education Programs
A “Hybrid” Approach to Distance Learning
We are an alternative program designed to fit the increasing demand of online learning and training in the college and workplace settings. We have been successfully educating students online for over nine years. We are a choice option school in the Jefferson County Public School System and therefore are tuition free. Our experience tells us that a “Hybrid” approach helps students be successful. Our unique “Hybrid” approach is a combination of online and face to face instruction that provides access to all requirements for a Jefferson County Public School High School Diploma. This hybrid approach has been shown to be a highly effective introduction to online education for high-school-aged students, who may not be ready for a purely “virtual” learning experience. As they progress through our program, students gradually become more self-directed and proactive in their own education. Students leave high school better prepared for college coursework, for their careers, and for life-long learning.
Our Teaching Staff
-
Our teachers are available for help in-person and by phone from 8:00am-3:00pm each day; alternatively, students and parents may leave questions for teachers via voicemail and email 24 hours a day. We strive to keep all students, parents, and teachers more closely connected than they would be in a traditional high school setting.
Student Profile
-
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and pursue many academic and career paths as they work independently with parental support. Students who are unable to attend a traditional high school because of health issues, child care responsibilities, or restrictive work schedules enjoy the flexibility that our class schedules provide. Prospective students must be in grades 9-12, may not be older than 18 years of age at time of enrollment, and must have daily access to a computer with high speed Internet connection.
Parental Involvement
- Parents/guardians of students in McLain L.I.V.E. (Learning In A Virtual Environment) are expected to participate in their students’ education. They should monitor their students’ attendance, both “virtual” and in-person, and contact teachers and/or administrators with their questions and concerns.
- Parents/guardians must attend all regularly-scheduled conferences.
