Jeffco Board Goes Paperless

Board of Education meeting agendas are available on the Board's Web page through a new link: BoardDocs, Agendas & News in a new, more comprehensive, online method for the Jeffco Public Schools community. Agendas will be searchable and paperless (though it is possible to print out agendas as well as specific items and their supporting documents).

Community members are able to review Board agendas prior to the meetings or can bring portable Internet-enabled hardware (laptops, tablets, PDAs, etc.) to log on to the Jeffco Guest Network in the Board or Seminar rooms to follow Board action online during the meetings. Instructions to log on to the Jeffco Guest Network for internet access at the Education Center will be available at Board meetings or through the steps outlined in the attachment.

After meetings, individuals can review agenda items to see what action was taken by the Board, complete with voting. All documents associated with Board meetings are automatically archived and accessible by meeting date or by using the comprehensive search feature.

Another new feature on the Board’s Web page, under Minutes, is the addition of sound recordings of regular business meetings. No longer is there a charge to receive a copy of the sound recording of the meetings - just have a media player to enjoy hours of Board work! If you have any additional questions or suggestions regarding these changes to our systems, please contact Helen Neal, 303-982-6801.

Evergreen High School Receives National Honor

Evergreen High School has been named a U.S. Department of Education 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, one of only three Colorado schools recognized for their outstanding academic achievement from 2003-06. The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states, or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

"This award allows Evergreen High the bragging rights it deserves," said former Evergreen Principal Jane Sutera. "And it's another feather in the cap of Jeffco Schools."
Only 280 schools from the 79,000 U.S. schools were invited to apply for the award.

Weber Elementary School Re-Opens

Weber Elementary students were welcomed on the first day back at school this week through an arch of balloons as they entered their new and improved school. Since Weber was damaged from an arson fire on the last day of school in June, nearly 23,000 square feet of the building’s interior was re-built, the roof was replaced with new insulation and HVAC units, a new fire sprinkler system was added and the roof has been equipped with a motion sensor security system.

Most of the fire restoration reconstruction was funded by the district’s insurance, but other school-wide upgrades were made possible through the support of Jefferson County taxpayers and the funding received from passing the 2004 bond issue.

Weber students and staff started the 2007-08 school year in classrooms located in three other Arvada elementary schools. Volunteers helped teachers and administrative staff unpacks boxes and get the school ready to welcome students back to class.

Celebration of Excellence Success

Nearly 400 Key Communicators, students, staff and community leaders turned out for the Celebration of Excellence event held on Tuesday, October 16. The event recognized significant accomplishments of the students, staff, schools and communities in the areas of academics, arts, athletics, making a difference and supporting our schools.

Student performances included Mariachi, circus arts, jump-roping, percussion music from around the world and a grand finale by an advanced choral group. Evening highlights also included video segments of the various honorees, some of which can be viewed on the district's Web site. Thanks to everyone for making this year's Celebration of Excellence such a success!

Which did you prefer, the fall or the spring for this event?
