Wastewater Pipeline Project

Jeffco Public Schools will be constructing a wastewater pipeline project from West Jeff Middle and Elementary schools to the West Jefferson Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Conifer High School is already connected to the school district’s wastewater treatment plant. The district will be installing lift stations at the two schools and building a network of sewer lines starting in September through December.  The project will follow along Barkley, Hurty and Hilton roads which may slow traffic and cause some delays.

For the past 15 years, the district performed a pump and haul operation to move the waste from the two schools to the treatment plant.  Piping the waste will be more cost efficient and eliminate the need for haul trucks. A Colorado Department of Education BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) grant will pay for 40 percent of the $2.3 million cost for the project. The rest of the funds will come from the district’s capital reserve fund.  A subcontractor, experienced in this type of work, has been contracted to complete the project.  The pipeline will only transport waste from schools and not neighboring residences.
