| Rocky Mountain Deaf School is founded on the belief that deaf children can and should succeed. The driving force behind the school is a theme of excellence in research-based academic programs. In this intellectually stimulating environment, communication is totally accessible throughout the day from every person in the student's environment. At RMDS, our students become fully bilingual...becoming proficient in ASL, written English, and often spoken English. We are convinced that becoming bilingual in ASL and English supports long term success. Technology has brought tremendous advances in teaching deaf students. The ability to splice segments and create ASL movies, adding captioning, and special effects greatly enhances the ability of teachers to emphasize and teach bilingual visual and written languages. Not only do our students succeed in the classroom, they also benefit from a positive and active social support system. Here at RMDS, our students can debate, discuss, collaborate, and learn through direct communication with each other and their teacher...instead of through an interpreter. Outside of class, students participate in sports teams, a dance team, and a percussion team. RMDS also provides many special events and fun activities. Overall, RMDS is a wonderful school for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. |
