Sources of School Pride
- Bergen Meadow is the recipient of the Exemplary Reading Award from the International Reading Association.
- Students typically score in the 80th percentile on the Cognitive Abilities test. Teachers differentiate lessons based on ability.
- 95 percent of the staff hold Masters Degrees. Three staff members are ESL certified, Five staff members are GT certified, and three staff members are special education certified.
The Bergens are one school in two locations. Bergen Meadow houses Preschool through 2nd grade students, and Bergen Valley 3-5 grades. One Principal and one Assistant Principal lead both schools along with an Instructional Coach at each building and a Digital Teacher Librarian shared between both schools. This is a unique configuration in Jefferson County, but beneficial for students, staff and families. School size and class size assist with the feeling of a small school, even though enrollment is over 600 students between both locations and 75 staff members.
We believe that both practices and people are what make a difference for student achievement. We create a wonderful, positive environment that ensures that each child receives the proper instruction to soar both academically and emotionally. We utilize data to drive our instruction and meet the needs of each learner.
We are a very caring and compassionate community providing outreach opportunities to local organizations and partnerships with other schools. Our parents are very involved, logging in over 600 volunteer hours per month. Additionally, the PTA raises money to help support current technology needs by purchasing Smart Boards in every classroom, laptops, iPads and Chromebooks. Teachers are experienced and have high standards for all students. Differentiation in each classroom in all subject areas is expected and addressed. Every teacher has an extensive background in Fundations, Every Child a Writer, Math Expressions, and how to differentiate curriculum. All staff members are committed in helping each child be successful using various intervention and extension activities.
