• The district informed JESPA on Nov. 6, 2020, that the district team declared an impasse related to compensation discussions. At this stage, the district and JESPA will work together to identify and use a mediator to continue negotiations. View the declaration of impasse letter.

A Message from the Superintendent and JCEA – May 29, 2019

Dear Jeffco Public Schools Employees,

This week, the bargaining team, comprised of Jeffco Public Schools administration and Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA) representatives, met in hopes of reaching a tentative agreement regarding the salary for employees covered under the JCEA bargaining agreement for the 2019-20 school year.

While the two sides have come closer since the beginning of the bargaining talks, we, unfortunately, did not reach an agreement at the May 29th session (the last one scheduled for this school year).

While we have not yet come to an agreement, we believe all parties wish to find a mutually agreeable solution. Therefore, we are committing to come together again in early August to continue the bargaining process.

Both sides share an interest in providing professional and livable wages for all our employees. We also share an interest in maintaining a stable and sound district budget. Our collective goal for our August sessions will be to find a solution that meets those two primary interests.

Salaries through this August will not be impacted by this continuation of negotiations, as those paychecks are paid according to the 2018-19 salary agreement.

It is our hope to reach an agreement for the next school year in early August so that salaries for 2019-20 can reflect agreed-upon raises when those first paychecks take effect in September.

In the meantime, the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education will need to approve a budget in June for the 2019-20 school year in accordance with state law. However, the Board may choose to revise the budget later to reflect an agreement from negotiations. It is the direction and intent of the Board to treat all employee groups (including Jeffco Education Support Professionals Association and Jefferson County Administrators Association) equitably based on any final agreements.

We appreciate your patience in this process as we work to find a positive and mutually agreeable solution. Jeffco Public Schools and JCEA are committed to doing just that.
