Public Hearings
Per Policy FCB, every school recommended for closure will have a public hearing with the Board of Education prior to the vote. These hearings focus exclusively on the recommendation for that particular school. Board members do not discuss or respond to individuals during public hearings.
- Public comment sessions are one hour for each school recommended for closure.
- Sign-up will open five days prior to the hearing and closes at 1 p.m. the day prior to the meeting.
- The order of speakers is determined by the date and time of sign-up.
- Each speaker has three minutes. Time allows for approximately 16 speakers.
- The first seven spots are prioritized for current staff and families at the school recommended for closure.
- Live interpreters are available so that people can speak and listen in their preferred language.
- We encourage those who wish to speak to bring their comments in writing.
- All written comments, regardless of whether they are shared verbally during the public comment session, are shared with each Board member.
- In October 2023, public hearings took place for each of the schools recommended for closure as part of Regional Opportunities for Thriving Schools, Phase II.
We are grateful for the community's engagement and participation in these public hearings.
