Expand Early Childhood Quantity and Quality

Our school district will not fully achieve its goals unless we work to simultaneously expand the quantity and quality of early childhood education in Jeffco. Quality early childhood education is much more than just childcare. It is an academically and developmentally-focused experience that provides students with early literacy and numeracy skills, as well as other academic experiences, so they come to school ready to learn.

A system of early childhood education already exists in Jeffco, but (like most places in the United States), it is a patchwork of different government organizations, nonprofits, private providers, churches, family/friends, and neighbor care. All of these options are important in our community and we must support them all toward working together as a system to expand access, capacity, and quality across the board.

Theory of Action

IF we increase the quality and quantity of academically and developmentally focused opportunities for Pre-K students THEN those students will enter kindergarten ready and will sustain academic proficiency.  


  • By 2022, at least 70% of students will demonstrate school readiness, within the developmentally appropriate range, for all six domains of learning, based on the Jeffco Kindergarten Early Assessment. 

  • Beginning in the 2019/20 School year, Jeffco Schools will increase the number of full day seats offered in Jeffco preschools by 10% each year for the next four years.
