Guest Teaching and Substitute Positions
Jeffco Public Schools is always looking for team members who can assist us in filling roles on a temporary basis. Oftentimes, guest teaching positions can lead to full-time or part-time jobs in Jeffco. These positions are also appealing to our community members who may need a flexible, on-call work environment.
Opportunities for Retired Teachers
House Bill 22-1057: PERA Employment After Retirement gives you the opportunity to guest teach in Jeffco as many days as you want in the 2024-25 school year, with no reduced retirement benefit.

Guest Teachers
Substitute Bus Drivers
Jeffco hires substitute bus drivers with hours ranging up to 40 hours per week. Schedules are usually split, with morning and afternoon pick-up and drop-off duties. This position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), but the district does provide paid training to obtain this.
Starting hourly rates are $18.01 per hour with the opportunity to move into a regular position with benefits.
Substitute Bus Assistant
Our substitute bus assistants ride the bus with students and provide assistance when needed to the bus driver. This position does not require the CDL. Hourly rates begin at $13.57 per hour and you can work up to 40 hours per week. This can lead to a regular position with benefits.
Substitute Custodians
Jeffco hires substitute custodians in four or eight-hour shifts, usually in the evenings. Shifts run from 2:30-10:30 p.m. for eight-hour shifts, and four-hour shifts are more flexible between the hours of 2:30-10:30 p.m.
Substitute custodians start at $13.60 per hour and there are many opportunities for full-time employment once you get hired into the sub-pool.
Substitute Food Service Worker
Jeffco hires substitute food service workers in a minimum of four-hour shifts, usually centered around meal times. If the school offers a breakfast program, there are morning shifts available. Otherwise, the work is usually scheduled around lunchtime.
Substitute food service workers start at $12.00 per hour with the opportunity to move into a regular position at a higher hourly rate ($12.49 per hour starting rate).
