Dual Language is a popular option for families who value bilingualism. Students who are enrolled in the program learn to read, write, speak, and understand both Spanish and English in all subject areas

Dual Language Preschool Programming

One-Way Preschool Programming

Designed for students who come to school with a Spanish language background.

Instruction occurs 90% in Spanish and 10% in English.


Schools that offer One-Way Dual Language preschool programming:
Two-Way Preschool Programming

Designed for students of all language backgrounds. 

Special attention is given to have a balance of students with a Spanish language background and those with English or other language backgrounds.

Instruction occurs 90% in Spanish and 10% in English.


Schools that offer Two-Way Dual Language preschool programming:

Dual Language Elementary and K-8 Programming

One-Way Elementary Programming

Designed for students who come to school with a Spanish language background.

Instruction begins with 80% of instruction in Spanish and 20% in English in Kindergarten.

Instruction gradually includes more English instruction, and by 3rd grade, students receive 50% of their instruction in Spanish and 50% of their instruction in English. This 50% Spanish/ 50% English instruction continues through the end of elementary.

Two-Way Elementary and K-8 Programming

Designed for students of all language backgrounds. 

Special attention is given to have a balance of students with a Spanish language background and those with English or other language backgrounds.

Instruction in Two-Way Dual Language classrooms includes 50% of instruction in Spanish and 50% of instruction in English in all grades, kindergarten–6 or kindergarten–8.

Dual Language Secondary Courses

Several secondary schools in Jeffco offer Dual Language courses.  This includes Spanish Language Arts and Spanish for Heritage Speakers courses. In addition, some schools also offer courses instructed in Spanish such as math, science, social studies and electives.
