Warren Tech's Second Arson Investigation

Warren Tech's Second Annual Arson Investigation a Great Success
Posted on 05/10/2018

Warren Tech Arson InvestigationUsually, it isn’t a good sign when a fire truck parks outside your high school, but at Warren Tech, it was part of the planning for an elaborate learning experience. Warren Tech fire science, criminal justice, forensic science, and building trades students team up with fire investigators, Rob Sprenkle and Mark Campbell, to get some real-world experience in arson crime scene investigation. The second annual arson investigation included two full-scale burns that will be staged in cells that were specially-designed by the STEM program and constructed by the building trades program. The arson investigation included a fire K9 named Bandit, who has been trained to track accelerants. Fire science students were tasked with controlling and putting out the fire. Criminal justice students collected, preserved, and processed the evidence from the burn, and forensic science students analyzed fire dynamics and burn patterns. These exceptional Warren Tech programs cross-collaborate on one of the most dynamic learning events of the year.
