Superintendent's Corner

Superintendent & Chief Learner Dr. Jason Glass

Dear Jeffco Families & Community,

The results of the 2018 election are finally in and they mean improved opportunities for students, better pay for our educators and staff, and improved buildings in Jeffco!

During this election cycle, I talked extensively with people in our community about their choices on the ballot. With ballot questions 5A and 5B as local measures and Amendment 73 at the state level, voters in Jeffco had important and meaningful options to consider.

5A is a $33 million mill levy override and has passed by a strong 55% to 45% margin. 5A resources will allow Jeffco to be more competitive with surrounding districts in our compensation levels and services we offer our students.

5B is a $567 million bond package that turned out to be the ballot question “that could!” On election night, 5B was down around 9,000 votes. However, over the past week as more votes were counted, the “yes” votes on 5B just kept coming in. Today, we are confident the measure will pass. 5B will allow for incredibly significant improvements to buildings all across Jeffco, including reinvesting in our established communities, accommodating growth areas, and adding new facilities for learning in our county.

EnrollJeffco Is Coming!

EnrollJeffco logoJeffco Public Schools is rolling out a new student enrollment system called EnrollJeffco for the 2019-20 school year. This new enrollment system has two components. First, a tool called School Finder which is a searchable database of information about all Jeffco Public Schools. Second, an online enrollment system where all current and incoming students will indicate where they will go to school next year. Families with new preschool students and those who want to participate in choice enrollment to attend a school other than their current or neighborhood school, will apply for their school of choice through this system.

Starting December 17: Go to to learn about the schools near you.

January 22 - February 8:
Enroll in your current or neighborhood school (K-12), or apply to another Jeffco school (choice enroll & preschool) at

Late February: If choice enrolling, you will receive notification of next steps via email.

Check out now or watch the video below for information about this user-friendly system that will help families plan ahead and provide schools with enrollment information to prepare for the next school year.

Vape-Free November

On November 2, Governor John Hickenlooper proclaimed November as “Vape-Free November” to bring attention to Colorado’s teen vaping crisis and highlight several statewide strategies to combat youth use of e-cigarettes. While it may be news to some in the state that teen vaping is a growing concern, it wasn’t for a group of teens from Wheat Ridge High School. These students, members of a tobacco prevention club called the BE (Breathe Easy) Team, saw what was happening with their peers last year, and worked with district staff to produce an informational video for adults about the growing risk of teen vaping.

Thanks to their efforts, and the work of dedicated staff, our schools are working hard to respond to this emerging health issue quickly. Just last week, the district released a video featuring Superintendent Dr. Jason Glass to communicate the serious nature of the youth vaping crisis.

How Do I Know if School is Canceled?

Jeffco Public Schools rarely takes snow days; we live in Colorado and expect to have snowy conditions many times of the year. Unless the storm is extreme, school will not be canceled. We know the definition of “extreme” varies from person to person, but parents can always make the call not to send their children to school that day if they feel it is unsafe. To find out if your school is officially closed due to weather, parents will receive a phone/text/email message around 5:30 a.m. We also notify via social media, district and school webpages, and TV stations. Click here for more details.
